Ultimate Guide to Dalaman International Airport (DLM) for Tourists
Dalaman International Airport (DLM) is the main gateway to Turkey’s breathtaking Turquoise Coast. Serving millions of travelers every year, it connects you directly to major holiday hotspots like Marmaris, Fethiye, Göcek, Ölüdeniz, and Dalyan.
Whether you are arriving for a sunny getaway or departing after a memorable holiday, here is everything you need to know about navigating Dalaman Airport smoothly.
Departing from Dalaman: Check-In & Security
If you are flying out of Dalaman, your journey begins at the modern Terminal 2 (International).
1. Initial Security Check
Unlike many European airports, Turkey requires an initial security and luggage scan right at the main entrance of the terminal. Have your passport and flight ticket ready.
2. Check-In & Bag Drop
When to arrive: It is highly recommended to arrive at least 3 hours before international flights, especially during the peak summer season (May to October).
Desks: Check-in desk numbers for your airline will be displayed on the large electronic screens immediately after you pass the initial security screening.
Online Check-In: If you have checked in online and only have cabin baggage, you can go straight to the upper floor for passport control (unless your airline requires a physical document check at the desk).
3. Passport Control & Second Security
After check-in, take the escalators to the upper level. You will pass through Passport Control first, followed immediately by the main security screening (where liquids over 100ml are restricted).
Duty-Free & Shopping (Free Shop)
Once you enter the departures lounge, you will find extensive Duty-Free shopping areas operated by ATÜ Duty Free.
What to Buy: World-class brands of cosmetics, perfumes, luxury watches, and fashion items, alongside traditional Turkish delights, local olive oils, raki, and souvenirs.
Arrivals Duty-Free: Forgot to buy something? There is also a smaller Duty-Free shop located in the Baggage Reclaim area upon arrival, allowing you to buy select goods before exiting into Turkey.
Payment Options: Euros (€), British Pounds (£), US Dollars ($), and Turkish Lira (TL) are widely accepted, alongside major international credit cards.
Arriving at Dalaman: Passport Control & Meeting Point
1. Passport Control & Visa
Upon landing, follow the "Passport Control" signs.
Important Note: Ensure you check Turkey’s visa requirements for your nationality before traveling. Most European and UK citizens enjoy visa-free entry for tourism, but if you need an e-Visa, make sure to purchase it online from the official government website before arrival.
2. Baggage Claim
After passport control, proceed downstairs to the baggage reclaim hall. Screen monitors will tell you which carousel corresponds to your flight number. Free luggage trolleys are available here.
3. Passenger Meeting & Greeters Area (Yolcu Karþýlama)
Once you clear customs and exit the sliding doors into the main arrivals hall, you will enter the outdoor Passenger Meeting Point.
If you have booked a private transfer, tour operator package, your driver/rep will be standing here holding a sign with your name or the company logo.
The meeting area features small cafes, ATMs, and official telecom shops (Turkcell, Vodafone, Türk Telekom) where you can purchase a local tourist SIM card for data.
